If a 600 has a hard time turing them I think going to a Kodiak(401cc)or Rancher(329cc) will be worse, infact there is not a utility bike made yet that has the HP of the Grizzly.Try using low range if high is to tall of a gear.

biggrizz730,
I put the 27x11x12 Titan 589's on my Griz and I couldn't tell any difference in power at all! Well now wait, it does take alittle longer to get from 50mph to 60mph then it used to. But since I don't really spend all that much time at those speeds anyway, when the 27" tires wear out I'm going to a 28". I still have tons of power off the bottom! If your having a power problem with over sized tires, you should check for some mechanical problem. At any rate, it will only get worse with a smaller quad. Besides, I think low range on the Griz would be perfect for mud racing. It has lots of power off the bottom, but can still carry you out to 40mph!

Jon,
I test rode a Sp500HO last week. So I can tell you about some of the differences. Its a smooth bike, it runs and rides smoother all the way around. I didn't think it had any more power then my Grizzly, but it didn't have any less either. I don't think it would make a very good mud racer. For for one thing it is VERY heavy, and another thing is that it is geared quite alot lower then my Grizzly is in lo range. It has the ability to drive all 4 wheels when needed, which would be a great advantage. However, the low gearing and excess weight makes me think that it would wallow through the mud, rather than race through it at high speed, essentially skimming across the surface as much as possible. Don't get me wrong, I have no doubt that it would make it through about anything, just not very fast.
If your looking for another quad to just ride on the trails, the HO would be a nice bike! It has some advantages over the Griz, and it has some weaknesses compared to the Griz. It would depend on the kind of riding you do mostly. I found the short comings on the HO to be the things that I look for most in a 4x4 quad. But then thats just me.

I just bought the 2001 Yamaha Kodiak. I am new to 4 wheelers in general, but on my first tail run I was pretty amazed on the way the quad handled the tail. We hit some nice mud holes, rocks, and inclines, pretty much anything you would run into, even some snow. For my first quad I feel that it is all I need.

PS: I am not new to offroading, just new to the smaller version. I am usually warm and dry in a cab of a truck.
