Valve seals or not?
I was wondering if anyone could shed any light on this matter for me.
I have a '99 Warrior I just bought used from someone. They didn't take very good care of it. Jerry riggin', ya know?
I have to pull the plug out and clean it in order to start it after it has been sitting for a little. It don't matter if it is still warm or not. My thought is that it may be valve seals allowing oil to seep down and fowling the plug while sitting. I can shut it off and start it back up an unlimited amount of times, but if I let it sit for a short time, I have to pull the plug and clean it and it fires right up. So, do you think it is the valve seals? Also, when first started, it smokes for a short period of time, after which there is no smoke at all.
Any insight on this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thank You!

Ok...thanks! I will try that. I'm kinda getting a little confused now though.
The past couple times that it hasn't started, I pulled the plug and it was dry and clean. But even saying that, I take the plug in the shed and clean it on the wire wheel, put it back in the bike and she fires right up. I don't understand. Like I said, it wasn't even wet or dirty the past couple times but a cleaning still works. Go figure.
Is it possible that the coil is getting weak and not creating enough spark? Or do coils just go completely bad and not give no spark at all? I'm wondering if I should just go get a new coil and coil wire and try that.

I also forgot to mention that when I start it and take it for a run, it runs great. One other thing, when I have it sitting there idling, sometimes the idle speed slows and I can hear click or a clunk type sound when that happens. Timing chain maybe my whole problem? Hmmmmmmmm..........

After a few more tries, it still looks like the plug isn't getting fouled. My thought is that it is weak spark and by cleaning the plug each time, it creates just enough spark to start it. Does anyone have the specs and testing procedure I can use to test my coil, cdi, rectifier/regulator (if that has anything to do with it), neutral switch (if that has anything to do with it) and whatever else may have to be checked? Thanks in advance.
