Default CDI ? Clutch kit ?

I have recently started putting some money into the grizz. My nexy step is going to be a CDI and a clutch kit. Should I do it? I know the clutch kit makes a big difference in the bottom end and I do run a 26 inch tire, but I do not know much about the CDI. What if any difference willl it make in the overall picture and who makes a decent CDI? Will it negatively affect anything? Any advice would be great.

Default CDI ? Clutch kit ?

I don't own a Griz, but here's my comment. Clutch kit on an automatic is a great mod. It'll help shift the power to where you need it. Example - on my scrambler 400 (2-stoke) adding a clutch kit let the engine built revs (RPM) before engaging. That bike needs the extra power at higher revs to pull harder. So a clutch kit helps get EXISTING power to where need it.

Note that changing the clutch spring/weights is can be fairly cheap and a great mod.

Changing the CDI - this is trickier. In General, most common reason to do this is to allow the engine to rev higher (moves rev limiter higher to get more power). On an automatic machine this doesn't help much (as the clutch will keep the engine from reving higher, too). Or maybe you have the 700 FI model? (you didn't say). Using a CDI you can change the fuel mapping. This again moves power around. You can tune the FI to make the best power where you need it (depending on how you ride). This is also a great mod for an FI machine, but will cost you more and take a bit of trial and error to tune it perfect.

EPI is the performance clutch king.

Hopefully someone on this forum will pipe in with a suggestion on weights/springs. If not, you can contact them and they have some knowledgable techs that can help.

Dalton also makes some good kits. Here's a link to their FAQ:
