Anyone having problems with their kodiak 450 rear brakes. I am eating them up like crazy.
I brought the bike to a dealership, and had them " profesionally adjusted and bled", but I am still going through a set of rear pads within 350 ish miles ( 600 kms). they say it's the mud, getting in between the pads and rotor ( that's why I went with disk brakes, to avoid this problem with drums )
I also had the caliper looked at by a local mechanic, and it seems to be in good working order
2005 kodiak 450 ....2460 kms ( 1200 miles ish ) going on 5th set of pads
any advice would be greatly appreciated
cheers

stop using the breaks so damn much! lol
j/k
I've only changed the front pads on my bruin 1x so far (I know , I don't ride enough) but the mechanic that helped me do it (saved me $$$ from the stealer) told me I need to clean them out more then I do/did.
The backer plates were even gone...the calipers were over extended (piston) but they went back in, luckily.
I haven't really got to ride since they were fixed..either your braking too much, you need to rinse them out after each ride or..what pads are you using, maybe you should look into a more expensive aftermarket brand is more durable?
could be any/all or a combo of the above, who knows. maybe somebody does.
I've seen a few posts about breaks going out too soon on the kodiak, and everyone shared the love for mud..like I do, so I'm going to try to actually wash my quad once in a while and hope that is all it is.
Good luck!

i barely ever use the rear brakes on my wolverine 450. i can stop fast enough with engine braking and the front brakes, and the rear brakes on the wolvey are kind of spongey and not the greatest. i would assume the kodiak is different because it has irs, right?

i dont think it could be that much of an operator error, iv still got plenty of pad left on my rear brake at 700 mi. does each rear wheel have a disc brake?. i would think that would help with the rear brake spongeyness as opposed to only one on the straight axle of the wolv. try going with some aftermarket longer wear pads and stop using them so much. its not like a manual where u can ride all day with only engine braking and no brakes. just try to use the fronts more i guess.
