Want to make your Wolverine the baddest mudder around?

I have ridden with a couple of guys out of Texarkana that ride Wolverines. They had Big Bear Gears installed along with a locker, lift, and power kit. They run 27X12-12 Vamps front and back and can ride a wheelie even with the big tires. I have seen alot of set-ups, and with the Exception of a properly modified SP500, there is nothing that will hang with them in the mud... including a Rubicon with 28" Outlaws. These bikes are very light, and with the grany gear off the Big Bear, they can turn the tire anywhere the rest of the biug bores can. Anyway, the Wolverine catches alot of crap about having to low end power. I thought I would just mention these.

That's the first time I've heard of doing that, and I must say that it sounds like a truly good idea. Do you know how long it take to make the modification? Did they change the whole gear set, or just the bottom 2 or 3 gears? I'm assuming they had a scraped big bear motor kicking around, cause the price of gears would have to be expensive. Do you know if it matters what year the big bear is?
So many questions, and I know that you haven't done the mods yourself, so you probably don't have the answers. But thanks for the food for thought.

Of course you would lose top speed if all the gears were changed. That's why I wondering if the entire gearset had to be changed, or if you could change just the first 2 or 3.
However, the idea of changing the gears comes from the need for lowering the overall gearing after adding larger tires, so I don't think the change would be that drastic. It would be nice to get the gearing back to stock after adding taller tires.

The year big bear doesn't matter. But all the gears would have to be changed or you will end up with a big jump between gears and lose all power. You will get a lot of your top speed back with bigger tires by reducing the gear ratio. Also big bears are geared to have 25" tires stock that makes a big difference.
