Default Hi Octane Gas

I know its suggested to use Hi Octane (around 92) in the high performance engines, but, man its just too much w/ $4 a gallon around the corner. Will using regular (say 87 octane) have any negative affect on an engine? I have been using regular for my Raptor 700 but still try to get 92 octane for my Banshee. Anybody have a thought on this?

be very carefull. if you hear any noise get more oct right away. i run 91 no madder what but i live at sea level also so that makes a difference.

i look at it this way. what is the real difference in cost? insted of pay 4.00 a gallon you pay 3.70-3.80 saving yourself 20-30 cents a gallon. that only like 5% savings. imo just not worth it.

If you can't afford the right gas for the quad... I wouldn't ride it...

the minimum for yfz's is 91... I try to run 92 if I can... but I never go lower than 91...

Just run what the manufacturer suggest.Anything higher is just a waste of money unless you have raised the compression of your engine.

im pretty sure yami will say the raptor 700 need 91. as as said before it almost cost nothing to run 91 over 87.

Considering ATVs get great gas mileage, you can ride all day on ~2 gallons.

93 @ $3.80 * 2 gal = $7.60
87 @ $3.60 * 2 gal = $7.20

Forty cent difference. I'm willing to pay the extra 40 cents to do what Yamaha recommends.

The manual for the Raptor 700 says regular unleaded gas which is 87 octane around here.

Default Hi Octane Gas

my 700 raptor pings on 87, but I do have a pipe, K&N and controller on it but for the extra .20 a gallon I think it's worth it to use 91
