Default yamaha carb jet question?

What are the functions of the different jets (pilot, Main, needle, starter)? the reason I ask is that I was able to remove my carb and unstick my float (as it was leaking out the drain tube).. however, now my quad will idle, but as soon as I give it some gas it wants to sputter and seems to run rich or as if the choke was on... could it be I messed up one of the jets? appreciate any thoughts?

thanks,

greg '02 yamaha.

Thanks speedy2222. I have an '02 Big Bear 400 4X4. the parking brake is off, but did notice a hose running down to the back brack drum.. will check this out.. maybe I messed up the hose when reinstalling. I also noticed gas coming out of one of the top tubes of the carb. It seems to run fine soon after turning off the petcock fuel valve until the gas runs out..

might be a stuck float.. hit the bottom of the carb with a screwdriver
