88 Big bear wont start unless i give it gas

Red face 88 Big bear wont start unless i give it gas

Well its not a huge problem,. but when i goto start up my engine i have to give it throttle or it wont turn over. any reason for this? and can it be solved easily? thanks

Does it idle? If not take the carb apart and clean the pilot jet.

yea it idles, once it give it going it idles great, took apart carb once, looks all good to me, but not sure

Is your choke plunger stuck in the down position or the choke passages are clogged,sound like you just starting the ATV with no choke assist. May need to remove plunger and put a wire through the choke passage.

I had a machine with the plunger seized in the choke off position,had to uses throttle to start it every time before finally freeing it up with a good cleaning.

Most engines with carbs need a bit of throttle to start them, it is fuel injected stuff that you have to leave alone when starting. Just how much throttle to give is part of the learning curve. Note your B & S engined lawnmower probably needs full throttle and choke, to fire it up.
