Default 97 timberwolf

front output seal on the middle gear assembly is leaking. to change seal do you have to take the hole thing apart or is it like a car and just take the yoke off and replace that way?

My friend did the rear output shaft on a 350 Big Bear, I don't remember him having to taking the whole thing apart.

I would change it(#8) from the outside using this screw trick.

Check out this link

Yamaha of Troy

From the exploded view it looks like the seal is installed from the inside of the case, but sometimes the exploded views can be a little deceiving. I can't imagine having to take the entire thing apart to replace the seal but I have seen stranger things. Sorry, I have never had to service that particular part of a Timberwolf so I can't say for sure. Hope this helps a little.

Opps my view (#8) was the rear output seal ,sorry. No matter, from the above link it (#44) looks to be changed from the outside.

Yeah, that is the one (39) that I was referring to as well based on your first post. The exploded diagram makes it look like the shaft, bearing, seal, etc are all installed from the inside of the case. However, experience has shown me that these diagrams can sometimes be deceiving and having never worked on that particular part of a Timberwolf I cannot tell you how it is actually assembled. My advice is to take off the yoke and see. I'm inclined to believe that the seal is installed from the outsde but I don't know for sure. Good luck.

If Worst comes to worst it looks like only ten small bolts to get the #36 plate cover off.
