Default 1998 yamaha kodiak 400? Can I use this oil in rear and front?

Can I use Lucas SAE 75W-90 Synthetic Gear Oil? In rear end and front?

also is it ok that I used rotella t6 synthetic SAE 5W-40 when I changed engine oil?

this is my first 4wheeler and i am a bit nervous to mess stuff up.

It is not recommended that you mix synthetic and mineral oils so, if you must use synthetic gear oil, drain and flush the old oil out. Don't know the spec on rotella t6 synthetic SAE 5W-40 but most quads, including the old Kodiak, have wet clutches so the oil must not contain friction inhibitors, i.e. must be "suitable for motorcycles."

Curious here...all mfgrs of synthetic oil have written statements that syn lubes are fully compatible with dino oils. They even sell 50/50 syn and dino oils, so where is the concern? The Rotella T6 is for wet clutches, no friction modifiers, that is one reason so many use it for there atv/utv machines. I have used (walmart) full syn diff lube...75-140wt for many years. It is a Valvoline product and has surpassed all tests exceedng mfgr specs. Due to being a syn based lube the wt of the lube is not critical, as syn lubes do not thin out under heat and do not get thicker in the cold. I talked to Kymco directly before switching and they gave there approval.

Not mixing Synthetic and mineral oil could be a myth, but why take the chance? It is supposed to be because they don't mix together, so forming an emulsion. I don't know the truth of this. Semi synthetic oil is a different thing altogether. Certainly, "any oil is better than none" but why not put in what the makers tell you to put in? It is cheaper anyway.

Beings its your first ATV and you don't want to mess things up just go by what the owners manual says or look up one one line. You've already changed the motor oil so a little late to ask the question.
