Default YTM crankshaft bearing removal

Hello, have a 84 YTM that I would like to put new crankshaft bearings on. According to a manual it says that if there were to be any damage to the cam chain sprocket that the half of the crankshaft its on would need to be replaced. Can I not press this gear off the crank to replace the bearing? I guess I am not be seeing a reason as to why it wouldn't press off. Any input would be great, Thanks!

If the bearing is shot, you will have to try, however if the book says the cam sprocket can't be removed, there will be a reason. Probably no way it will come off without it being destroyed. If the bearing "aint broke, don't fix it."
