Unhappy Brakes

2002 Bear Tracker 250 Left brake handle is limp. Ordered a new OEM cable and installed it. I depress the brake handle and it stays depressed (brake light on). I adjusted it until the spring was tight, with no more adjustment left, results were the same. Though I triple checked the part and part numbers, it almost seems like the cable is too long. All other brakes and cables work fine. Input please!

The lever on the cam in the brake backplate can be moved onto a different spline, your lever is on the wrong spline. Also cams seize in the backplate, check it moves freely and free it if it doesn't.

Thanks, Merryman. I didn't realize the spline was adjustable. It's my first ATV and I'm sort of learning as I go. I'm 73 and the main reason I got it was to drag deer out of the woods. I just can't do it the old-fashioned way anymore. I adjusted the spline today but didn't move it quite far enough. Will repeat it tomorrow and that should do it. I really appreciate your help. It sure beats the hell out of taking it to a dealer. PS the cam is moving freely.
