Need serious power for Kodiak.

Anyone know of any big bore kits, Major mods that can be done to a 2001 Kodiak to make it run close to a (2002)650 kawasaki Prarie? Or is there nothing out there? I know I need some serious power to make it happen but am willing to spend the $ and time to do it. Thanks in advance to all who reply.

Mickey has built the engines for a couple of GNCC champions. If money is no object, why don't you start with the new Grizzly 660, he has a stroker kit for it that is around 725cc, high comp. pistons, HD stainless valve springs, not sure what cams he has yet for the Griz 660, and he also ports and polishes the engine head, one of the best tuners around. Either way call him, because he has plenty of work and it may be a month or two before you can get any personal work done on an engine, parts can be shipped to you. Sorry, Didn't mean it to sound like money was no object. There is a limit,(The difference between the trade in and the cost of a new 650 Prarie or 660 griz. If over that limit, It would be smarter to just trade up to the bigger bore ATV. Maybe that would be the most cost effective. Thanks for reply.

The differnce in the trade in price and a new Grizzly or Praire ought to be worth a couple of grand. With that you can bore and stroke the 400cc Kodiak to 490cc, port and flow the head, install a heavy duty valve springs and a high performance cam, 37mm Mikuni carb, high flow intake system w/aircleaner and outerwears, and a high performance pipe. If you want to spend less than a grand, if prices have not gone up, leave the engine at 400cc. But if you wnat to keep up with the new 650 Praire and probably beat it you will probably need to bore and stroke the 400 too.

2 Grand is about the max before I would just trade it in. Can I get everything you mentioned for about that much money? I also posted a message after this original post about some Mice stuffing my air box full of sead and corn (just found this afternoon) with the possibility of bore damage. Kodiak is down to about a 49-50 mph top speed. Are they boring the original jugs or replacing them?

Cammed, ported and flowed, bigger carbs, all the mods that FST did to its champion GNCC utility mod bike, I do not believe a stock 650 will stay with it. On the downside, you will decrease reliability, and it will be difficult to recupe your money when you decide to sell it. Best to call FST. I think the 660 Griz is a better off road machine because of the IRS, the 650 Praire is a better high speed wide trail, open spaces machine, rides more like a sport machine. I would like to own one for just hot rodding around.
