Lack of reply from Powroll: I've e-mailed extensively with Pam on a stroker warrior kit about 2 years ago and they provided allsorts of excellent information and I even co-ordinated a visit to there facility whilst on vacation in the US last year via e-mail from New Zealand.

I've always found Pam to be very helpfull when ever I've enquired to Powroll. Are you sure she recieved your e-mail ????

Velocityraptor- Thanks for the info! Starting to look like only Trinity and Sparks for the bigger bore raptors. Sparks can only produce a limited number a year, due to curtis being the only one to do the work. My guess is 20 per year. Anybody know how many Trinity plans to produce a year?

If sparks does all his own work, that can't be a bad thing. I mean, he knows what he wants and somtimes ya just have to do it yourself to get it right. JMO. Still a bit expensive, IMO

Just got my Sparks 690 (12.5) hi rev kit. took a while, but I grinning.........Should be up and running in a week. Replacing main, big end bearings and crank pin(all was fine but cheap insurance). Reusing the rod. Head booked in for September. Been down now for a couple of months, hanging out for a fang.

Here we are at the 2000th viewing of this post. I think it should be crowned with some special viewing designation!!!!

Raptornz,

Why in the world would you go through all of that trouble on the crank and NOT replace the weak link -- the ROD?

720, a few reasons,
1. I haven't heard of any parting company yet, the rod appears to be ok. Have you seen one let go in a 686 with the crank bearings & pin replaced?
2. money...a new bub's on the scene and down to one income. Everything's damn expensive down here at the bottom of the world. Triple the cost.

If I was to replace the rod what are some brands to consider?
While we're here, a question on the timing chain, at what point should this be replaced and what with, the tensioner's only about a quarter through the range. I also do some hill climbs that are sustained full throttle 10mins runs and I read somewhere a while back on the Delphi forum you recommend installing a roller chain.
cheers...Andrew

Oiling can be a problem on a 10minute WOT run for that stock chain. The chain is an improvement over the early 500-660 design but you are still pushing things. I have a roller chain conversion that takes care of my worries on the issue. For most everyone else the stock chain will last for years without fail.

On the rod. Yes I have seen them let go. It is usually not a big end oil or bearing problem. It seems to be the small end removing itself or cracking down the beam. For the rod there are two options. The Carillo rod priced at about $200 USD or a Titanium unit that I can get for about $1000 USD.
