Polishing Aluminum - any ideas?
Wow, this is an old thread, but that's ok.
Well I used wet sanding upto 1500 grit and it turned out pretty good. If you have a buffing wheel on a bench grinder, that would be by far the way to go. I didn't. Don't think that you'll be done in a day hand sanding... it takes a lot of elbow grease. Next time I'll probably chrome the cases because I'm lazy. The disadvantage is that you have to basically take the motor apart (which I didn't do) and it is more expensive then just sanding and polishing. If you go the chrome route, Mike330R referred me to Steve Ruiz at Pacific Plating (619-295-0496) in Southern California. They do nice work, and the prices are pretty good. I had my shifter, brake lever, kicker, and pegs chromed for around $200 including shipping. Good luck.
