Default 2003 450 kodiak cut's out in reverse

dude on my freinds new 450 kodiak the reverse would sometimes not work. maybe the diff. lock was on or something but everytime he put it into reverse it would like shake and studder and would not work

I'd take that back to the dealer before his warranty goes out.

how did you resolve this? My 2006 is doing the same cutout in reverse.

If it only cuts out when you put it into reverse, the CDI must be getting a signal from the reverse light wire to tell it that it is in reverse, so disconnect that wire to the CDI and it won't get the signal. The rev limiter for reverse won't work either, but some makes of bike don't have one anyway. It could be a sign that your CDI is faulty but, if a simple disconnection of the reverse wire works, I would accept that as a fix. Worth checking the charge rate at the battery when the engine is revved, as overcharging (over 15v) can produce strange CDI symptoms.
