back fire caused carb boots to blow off raptor-is there a better boot set-up for raptor?
#1
well today i was about 3 or 4 miles from the staging area at florence oregon on the dunes and my carb boots came partially off which of course made it impossible to start until i put them back on.i was wondering if anyone makes a aftermarket set-up for the raptor that replaces the stock carb boots as they just look like they are not that secure to begin with.the boots came off after a slight backfire so i can only imagine what would happen if it really backfired.if you have experienced this and have found a solution i would like to hear about it.

I would have kept the spacer in, but instead of complete removal slightly grind the spacer down for a tighter fit.
Mine have not popped off yet. I thought there was a redesign somewhere in the run, in 2001.

thanks for the ideas .i think i will try regular hose clamps because it seems like they will be more secure than the stock ones.i have to add that this forum is a very valuable resource for info on anything related to quads and i for one really appreciate it .thanks again

You have the very common lean down low situation. (backfire through carbs)
1. Fix by opening up the fuel screws under the front of the carbs (1/4 turn at a time) on both sides.
Screws should be around 2.5 - 3 turns out from seated position
2. Get the next size up in pilot jets. (standard are 22.5). They go in increments of 2.5 so try 25 pilot jets.
3. Increase the idle.
You don't need the 02 boots, just put on hose clamps you mentioned, they fit just right.....
