Yamoto 150cc Review
#261
We took the yamoto 150 out for a couple hours yesterday. The wife is getting more confident and really liked the new rear suspension. Her first real ride since it was completed. She followed me up into the hills for the first time and the quad had no trouble climbing, never even needed full throttle. I still dont understand why if it sits for more than 3 weeks. I have to take carb apart and clean it, just to get it to run right. Oh well I guess I should just be happy it always fixes it. May try adding fuel stabilizer this week and see if it makes a difference.

Hey all,
We have had the Yamoto 150cc since the end of October 04. I bought it for my son, he is 9 yrs old and a good size kid. The one thing that i dont like is that if its really cold (45 degrees or lower), it has a really really hard time starting, if at all. Most times if its that cold we either dont try to ride or give up after several tries. The other thing is NO REVERSE! I knew this before i bought it and didnt think much of it. What an idiot i was, put an 8 or 9 yr old on a quad and you will want reverse. We get around it but the Kazuma 150 I think does come with reverse, it just doesnt have the raptor look he loves.
We have not done anything to it yet and if anyone can recommend what we should try first that would be great.
I have ridden it several times and it rode pretty damn well after it warmed up. I am about 5'11 and 220 pounds, and it gets up and goes pretty well with me on it. We do trail type riding mostly and he just loves it. I think for his first quad it was a great choice.
We bought from Raceway ATV and have been going back and forth with them regarding parts that were shipped to me incomplete or broken. The brake light assembly did not have the proper connections on it to connect it to the wiring on the ATV. And, the Nerf bar welds were broken clean at the weld when we took it off the create. The company Raceway uses to get the parts was bought by new owners some time ago and are less than speedy on sending the parts i need (4 months and still waiting). though I am told that i will get them.
All in all I think it is a good starter ATV for kids and if ot beaten to hard can be used by adults my size or smaller.

RAMTechRC, I use 92 octane union 76 fuel in the yamoto and ktm. only the yamoto has the need for frequent carb cleanings. very strange. I do mix 92 octane with 100 octane from the same 76 station. I always buy all my dirt bike/quad gas from the same station. Was just thinking of trying fuel stabilizer, but like i say it doesnt affect the ktm.
jcotti, My wife refuses to ride if it is below 60 degrees, so I dont have that problem. Did read about some one here who points a propane heater at theirs for a few minutes before starting it. Carb definitaly has some problems. Other than the carb and some bad quality bolts, not a bad quad, poor rear suspension IMO. Definitely a entry level quad. Still for the money a real good deal IMO.

Jcotti,
Did you change the needle clip position? You should do this when the weather gets colder. If you lower the clip this will make it richer so it wont depend on the choke as much. Also how stiff is the suspension on the yamoto? I am looking into getting another quad but want somthing different then our Kazuma 110. The Yamoto 110 looks nice.

We went to the Badlands(Indiana) today and rode for five hours. The yamoto performed flawlwessly, and the high was around 45. I do have a K&N for it but I have not installed it yet. The only complaint is the stiffness of the suspension, it can bounce you around pretty good at speed.

Hi all,
For myself, I have seemed to fix the carburetor problem... it seems in my case that the black plastic piston in the carb sticks if it is not used for a couple of weeks. I removed the top of the carb, pulled the diaphragm/piston assembly and put WD-40 on it where it slides into the bore. I also put about 3 oz of Marvel Mystery Oil in the gas tank each fill-up. I have had zero carb problems since, even when the ATV sat for weeks without riding. If this works for you, please post it so others will know.

I dont even know what the needle clip is? This is the first atv in our family so I havent gotten to work on it much yet. I am a pretty handy guy but dont know much about small motor work. I guess I will be learning quite fast. I will be getting a quad for myslef in a few weeks and one for my 4 yr daughter this june for her birthday (probably a 50). Ever since her brother got his, she is wanting to ride one. As for the suspension, it does seem to be pretty stiff. I dont know how to make it softer, or if you even can with the stock shocks. As the weather warms up here in mass and spring approaches i will spend more time on it.
What is/where is this needle clip?
