I have Alpinestar Vectors and love them. They break in very quickly and feel like tennis shoes once you do get them broken in. Very comfortable.

I have AlpineStar Tech6 Youth boots (since they don't make women's sizes) and they are great. I wore them around the house for a week to break them in a little, but they are awesome!!!!! Very tough and very comfortable!

I have Alpinestars Tech8s. They have saved my ankles many times. For example, last week i was riding my buddies stock 2001 400EX, with no nerf bars. I jumped a double in a rythm section (around 30 ft), and my foot came off the pegs on landing. The quad landed on my ankle, pulled me off the quad, and all i had was a small bruise on my thigh. I love my tech 8s.

If you're just going to putt putt you can probably get away with wearing flip flops, but if you try to smash through whoops or hit a few doubles you'll feel like your feet have been caned if aren't wearing MX boots.

I have O'neal Elements and like them just fine. What to wear depends on where you are planning to ride. For track only riding and mx boot will do. If you plan to mostly trail ride a good work boot is ok as long as it has a steel shank. If you go with riding boots look at the sole. If you are in the woods and its sloppy a slick bottom boot won't get you too far. MSR and Gaerne make lug sole style boots. MSR are only $135. They didn't come out till after I got my O'neals so I'll have to wait till I wear out my O'neals to get something different.

ALpine star tech 8 boots is the boot out right now. That's what most the pro's wear, but do expect to pay for them.

There is a good riding boot test in the July 2001 issue of "Dirt Rider" magazine.
