Default Just got my hmf slip on today

Hi guys
I am new to this forum so we will se how it goes. Couple of questions I bought a hmf slip,on havent installed it yet but what jetting should I use to ride mostly in northern Mn on the trails and and roads to get back and forth to work no racing unless I race my roomates predator. The bike is a stock 2001 ds650 except for the K&N airfilter. I have 3800 miles on it and never had a problem with it. I installed one of those trailtech speedos when I bought it so I could keep track of the miles. I love the bike I will run it till its dead. I might buy a new one this fall but am leaning towards the outlander 400 4x4 so I can put a snow plow on it. Any help on the jetting would be awsome thanks to all.

What position is your stock needle? Do you mean lowest hieght or lowest notch?
Thanks

ps> Do you think the stock needle is better than the dynojet needle?

Barlett,
Thanks for the info. As far as the spring.... Are there different springs for certain years? The reason I ask is I didn't want to cut my stock spring in case I didn't like the results. So I ordered a second spring. The thing is it's thinner wire & longer than my stock one.

Bartlett,
Sorry to keep bothering you....

I understand the cut spring revs quicker, however do you notice in say a stop & go tight type of woods riding that the cut spring won't allow the carb to close up as quickly once out of the throttle 100%? Know what I mean? Does the motor rev down back to idle slower kinda like 1980's cars with all that emissions stuff did? I like the quicker rev idea, but I want the carb to still be real responsive up AND down too.

Thanks for all your help Bartlett.
Just gona double check
thats a 180 main jet, air screw 2.5 turns out, stock needle in lowest setting, and a/b lid on. not comfortable cutting the spring right yet maybe I will order another one and try it. I will let you all know wether I will be able to beat my roommates predator off the line now. Again for all the help
