That totally sucks. I can feel your pain. That is WAY too much money to have that much trouble. I must have gotten lucky.
The parts cost is crap as well. I'm not sure why everything is so $$ jacked up. Right down to the oil.
The way I ride it won't be long before I have to start putting $$ into it.
The 450r is a good choice, too.

awww man.... its a good thing i bought that engine. I just got back from the shop and they found my crank bearing welded itself together and then blew up...!

(who knows what that would have cost to replace...)

alright... im charging the battery now and im gonna go back out and i PRAY she fires.... if i even have a problem now im gonna be BEYOND angry....

*wish me luck* (its a sad day when you have to rely on LUCK to start up a 6k+ dollar quad)

i was just reading another post and it all made perfect sense that if you've got a cdi that has alot of advance at low rpm that would cause the grinding of the starter. it makes perfect sense because ive got my msd box set at full advance starting right at 2000 rpms. I never really put two and two together but how many of you that had problems have a aftermarket ignition. I'm going to set mine back down a little bit. I didnt even realize until I just thought back that after I advanced the timing like that it started alot harder and it make the grinding cracking noise alot.....and i mean alot. hopefully it hasn't ruined anything.

I have the exact same problems that started after the Procom CDI. When I put the stock CDI back on I dont have the problem.
That sound she makes "loud clank (sometimes just the metal grinding, with the occasional not starting ending in a loud horrific metal snap)," It shakes me right down to my bones every time I hear it. It must stop or I will stop using the Procom CDI.

also check out this thread. Advanced timing problem? CDI? Starting

I just checked it out. Well in my opinion the root of the problem is pretty well determined. Now I'll have to play with my msd settings to leave it at stock advance around idle. I was just messing with my box and figured I would ride it with that setting but I didnt put two and two together until now.
