Just an update, to let everyone know that after installing a new Big Gun CDI on my sons 05, the unit starts as well as the stock cdi. Over the last 10 days he has put on 125 miles with no problems.
He has let his quad sit for 5 days and it still starts great. I am sure that the older DS's had a voltage draw and if you did not start a least once a week, the battery would be low.
I feel the electrical updates on 04 & 05 machines have eliminated starting issues.
On 00 to 03's I like the Procom reg/recitifier not because of performance, but it enhances the ability to start with no kickback and charges the battery better. You still need to start at least once a week or disconnect the battery when not in use. My son works for a Bombardier dealer and all the older used DS's have the batteries disconnected while sitting on the floor.
If you have an older DS(00-03) and you have an aftermarket CDI that kicks back when starting with a low battery, I would recommend trying the Pocom reg/rectifier.
