Default 2 wheels vs. 4 wheels

I have been riding 4 wheelers for a few years and I recently bought a MX bike. I still have a 4 wheeler. I don't have much experience on a bike but I've been practicing. However, I think I like 4 wheelers better. You can carry stuff on a 4 wheeler but not much on a bike. I'm 53 years old and have done lots of racing and I'm through with that. So, speed is not a concern with me. Seems like I just want to take my time and take in the scenery on the trail. Other bikers say that my opinion will change the more I ride the bike. They say it will get easier and I will prefer it over 4 wheelers. I want to know what everyone out there thinks?

In my opinion, bikes are a little more forgiving in an accident. The weight factor is a huge difference, plus you (me anyway) tend to be a little more cautious on a bike whereas on the quad I'd probably hit the gas and worry about the consequences later.

You really can't beat the feeling of riding a bike down a tight wooded trail. And you definitely get a workout while doing it.

But like you said, if you're packing stuff around, the quad wins hands down. And in a nice muddy, watery bog, I'd rather be on the quad. Snow and ice? The bike stays inside. Riding in a bigger group I'd rather we all be on quads too.

If you're fortunate enough to have both, you've got it made. You can take out whatever you feel like.

Definately have to agree that it's a workout on a bike. Whew. And I am lucky to have both but my wife also rides. So, I take the bike and she takes the quad. I'm just not enjoying the bike like they say I will. I'll give it a few more rides and then decide if I should switch back to a quad and sell the bike.

I've found it's more enjoyable to ride a bike with a bike.

I started on 2 wheels, in 77 there were no 4 wheels. I was a raving lunatic on a bike for many years. 2 broken legs, 1 foot, 1 wrist, 1 arm, 8 fingers, several ribs, I flip flopped from bikes to quads from there and I think quads are safer for me. I seem to be a bit more layed back and not as much of a risk taker on a quad. I am scared to get on a bike now because my bones are like glass. Same as you at 50 years old I need to be cautious. It takes more to hit the ground with 4 wheels under you.

I grew up riding MX bikes like the honda cr 250 and kx 500-
I made the switch to sport quads maybe 10 years ago, and then switched to the sport utility soon there after- I don't miss the bike at all- in fact, I even bought a RM250 a few years ago thinking I'd like to get back into 2 stroke MX, but that lasted about 1 month before I sold it and bought a sport utility again.

I started out on 2 wheels at age 14, then switched to 4 wheels at age 40. ATVs turned out to be too slow, and not have the performance, or capability to cover rough ground as quickly and effortlessly as the bikes could, so I switched back to 2 wheels again. But I kept the ATVs, and rode both bikes and ATVs for the next decade. Now at age 50 I think I enjoy the ATVs as much as the bikes, perhaps more. The ATVs are definitely better when I want to just cruise and enjoy the scenery, which is more and more often these days.

I would give the 2 wheeler a little more time. Keep the ATV though, LOL.

if you're looking for a bike feel in an atv frame- go with the renegade 800- it'll turn your face white.
