Uhhhhhh Considering Honda puts the motor out of the civic in their boat motors I dunno why an evinrude smoker designed to push a boat wouldnt work in a car.
That is taking a car engine and using it in a boat (which just about every inboard or I/O boat does). The situation is different for an outboard boat engine going into a car, and I cited the reasons why in my post. Boat engines don't need nearly as much hp or torque to get them moving, thats why most small recreational boats get by fine on 100 hp.
Isnt hp hp? isnt torque torque? I was reading on the evinrudes and there 225hp 2smoke outboard has 40% more torque than comparable 4stroke outboards. I was trying to find some dyno charts to compare to a car engine . Cuz i think you blowin allotta smoke out your *** Maddog. With boats the Holeshot is all about torque, and the top speed is all about HP. everyone that knows anything about outboards knows a 2smoke of equal HP will get out outta the water quicker and provide greater acceleration. they also burn less fuel. I am in need of some dyno charts to better illustrate this to you apperantly. I just dont get how you think a 250hp V6 2stroke outboard wouldnt be able to run a 1500 lb car? seems a lil far fetched

Speaking of diesel, I'm sure some people remember the diesel utility atv Polaris came out with in the 90's. It didn't seem to fare too well.
Now if we could get a scaled down Powerstroke or Cummins....
A twin cylinder turbo diesel, that would be different.

The Phantom....loves his F-350 Super Duty...

Now you are talking about a 250 hp engine and a 1600 pound car (the lightest xfi was just over that weight dry). Most I/O boats use at least a GM/Mercruiser V6 or similar powerplant. This type of boat is what the civic engine you speak of would be used in. These engines are typically automotive engines redesigned for marine use. A two stroke outboard is a little different drive system (more tight angles) and have a different method of power delivery. I'm sure that you've ridden both a 2 stroke and 4 stroke quad and know the difference.

Think of the S2000, now imagine giving it the same powerband as a drag banshee. Ok, now drive it to work. This is basically what you are asking for, Have fun.

Could someone make it work, hey why not. Would it make a damn lick of sense to put a 3-5k dollar 2 stroke engine into a 1600 pound metro that originally retailed for 1300 dollars? Definately not. HP is hp, torque is torque, but the way the power is delivered and gets the machine moving is not the same and needs to be taken into account. If you want to press this issue or insult me further, go ahead. I'm done arguing about 2 stroke outboard motors in automobiles.

....
Um no. the civic engine Is what the Honda Outboard v6 4 strokes are based on. yamaha designed theres from scratch. outboards i am talkin about. you can bolt anything up as an inboard. as you also know just because the specific engine is desinged to a certain RPM range for optimal power you can tune a 2 stroke to deliver power anywhere.
but to the comparison of an s2000 with power of a drag banshee. SAWEEET i would drive it. I have driven a couple supras with power bands that of a banchee. when the second turbo hits HANG THE F@CK ON but anyway. i just thought it would be a fun experiiment obviously you feel its a dumb idea.
explore other technologies less maintainance better economy and fewer emissions. just tryin to appease the tree huggers.

2-strokes are cheaper to produce than 4-strokes and produce better power per cc. Imagine a 2-stroke in something like the Mirano with that cvt tranny. It has potential from a performance point of view. BUT, the problem with 2-strokes is there is no dedicated lubrication system. They wear out quicker than 4-strokes. Not a big deal on recreational vehicles, but on a daily driver this would pose some problems in my mind.

Airman 968, my friend, it is good to make your aquaintence and appreciate your participation and hope your contributions continue in accentuating the conversation. I am the funniest person that I know of and a legend in my spare time, among other things. I try to be as truthful as possible in the information I pass along and hope that all that interact with me will learn somthing useful over time.

I agree with this statement if your talking about traditional 2 strokes - but what about the "next generation" ones that will be more "environmentally friendly" - how much increased cost is there to meet the 2006 standards and still maintain HP?
