420 Rancher OR 500 Foreman

420 Rancher OR 500 Foreman
The Foreman is more of a work than a trail quad. One of the magazines last year had a Rancher along when they were testing the Foreman, and they said the Rancher was "more fun"! What are your riding conditons????
The Rancher is a nice package! Great handling, not to big but not to small, power that rips right off the bottom, fuel injection, water cooled, etc.
The SRA version handles like a sport quad, but if you feel like you need IRS and/or an automatic, the new 420AT has both. The transmission is all new, and an totally unique gear-on-gear "twin clutch" automatic (like a Volkswagen)!!! (Probably best to avoid the ES shiftin option on the SRA version.)
My only complaint is that I wish they were lighter!

The Rancher can be used for work, and the Foreman can be a fun trail quad...
If you were going to do big towing or dragging, though, I'd probably go Foreman (or Rubicon).
Which machine you prefer comes down to personal preference, so I'd suggest getting a real ride on both, if you can, before you decide.

Not to discurage you but I rode one yesterday at my local dealer and I thought the shifting was horrible. When its shifting it jerks you forward and its not very smooth. No wheres near as smooth as the ES. even in ES mode it shifts a little rough because of the differant tranny and gear set up. But it could just be me...you might not mind it.

One other rider review seemed to say something similar. They felt like if you gassed it to hard, it hit the next gear very hard.
There is certainly nothing wrong with the tranny on the SRA model (excluding problems with ES), but Honda's market research indicates that all the foo foo aging baby boomers out there are clamouring for nothing but automatics........
