Default 02 Honda recon 250es stuck in gear

First off before the problem I have now when I would ride the bike it would shift to 3rd gear then like it would go into fail safe mode had a code for the angle sensor so I replaced it, now after that I can upshift to 5th gear but will not down shift at all an the light blinks 8 times so I killed the bike and try to manually down shift it but can not get it into neutral an it will not show me what gear I am in, removed the front shift motor assembly to inspect all gears look good, you can hear the motor trying to shift up and down but can not find neutral, battery voltage is good too, did I mess something up trying to down shift it manually

With the shift motor assembly removed the mechanism left is exactly the same as a manual 250 so you should be able to change manually as easily as a manual bike. If you can't, there is a problem with the selector mechanism inside the clutch case. Remember, even with a manual bike, it has to be moving for gears to change properly, so rock the bike forwards and back while changing gear.

If you can change gear manually, I would guess at the downshift button not working properly, seeing as it changed up OK, but check what code 8 is.
