Default 700 Prairie Pinging

I recently purchased a new 700 Prairie and it sounds like it pings (detonates) at full throttle. I will re-fuel with 93 octane when near empty, may have 87 octane from dealer. Any feedback?
Also will the 650 K&N interchange and which exhaust is reasonably quiet, lighter and offers a power increase??? Thanks, DJ

The K&N will interchange if the 650 is a 2003. There really is no aftermarket exhaust that is quiet, I have run the original HMF system and then the Penlands Big Gun because I was told it was alot quieter,,, the sound level was not much different and it rattled apart within 500 miles! I now have the new HMF full system and I'm very happy with it and they are working hard on making a quiet core for it! You may want to consider doing the NYROC mods to your stock exhaust. As for the pinging, I'd definatley try good gas first, if it persists take it back to the dealer, warranty is a good thing!

Dealers are known for using subpar bulk gas. Check if they have their own gas storage. If they
do you can bet they are buying by the tankerful and getting the cheapest bulk gas they can find.
And bulk gas is just like bulk oil - JUNK.

The first thing I do when getting a new quad home is drain all the gas out and put it in my riding mower.
The mower don't care what gas you put in it. The quads do.

My 03 650 pings on 87 octane. I always run high octane fuel.

I am curious about the compression ratios between the 02 P-650, and the 04 P-700. My old 02 would run on weasel pi$$, or, so it seemed. I have always run 92 OCT, or better in the P-700.
Who has the specs handy?

The compression ratio on a 04 700 is 9.9 to 1.
It was 9.9 to 1 on the 02 650 also.
Perhaps the timing is different.

I run regular in my P700 with no problems (like the book says). Try another gas station. Using super is just wasting money.

djcarguy-- BTW. To do the NYROC exh. mod., you'll need a LOOOOONG 3/8" drill bit. Around 10/12" ,as I recall. I put 6 EA--3/8" holes thru all the baffles.
