I have a 2000 model and went with a Carlisle belt after about 6 years. I had to shim the secondary clutch a little to adjust the belt deflection. I don't recall the details but know I didn't buy any special tools to do it.

thank you for that info it is much appreciated. i am still leary of that dayco i will probably go with a Carlisle or Kawasaki. i guess I've got some shimming to do. Ive heard these things will do about 55 mph is that true. It will hardly ever do that but there is a spot here where i live that i can reach that speed i just want to tune to its full capablity thanks for the replies .

I can still get 50-55 out of mine with cabelas soft bags front and rear. Without bags, I'm sure I could get 55 more consistently.

The primary clutch faces got wavy on mine so I went with a Comet primary clutch about the same time.

Im not to sure on these atv set ups yet since im new to the atv world .
Now sleds ..that's different, but the principles are the same.
On a sled its just a set screw to set deflection , guess its a bit different on a atv

Loui.. if you get the belt up in the secondary about a 1/8" or so and deflection measurement is still to much... I would op for a shorter belt

Belt sizes vary from the supplier specs +_, I seen them a 1/2" difference before . Had a belt that pulled sweet on my sled and had to go through a few new belts to find the same size length .
Now I know why that old guy carried a string when he was belt shopping

My M8 2010 Cat has washer shims to adjust belt deflection. These are on the secondary. Very easy to change on the sled and not near as easy on the ATV, mainly because of what you have to do just to get access to the secondary.
