Does any body elses Prairie use oil. Im not talking a whole lot just a little and every now and then see a puff of smoke coming from the exhaust. And when idling see a whisp of smoke sometimes. Some feedback would be helpful. P.S. I broke my Prairie in according to the manual and it now has 600 miles on it.

if your talking about a 650 praire, mine does it too sometimes, especially when it sits for a while. I am not afraid the engine is bad however.

Mine "puffed" when new, until about 150 miles were on it. Doesn't use a noticable amount so far. I am using Castrol Syntec 20W50 oil.

Problem is with carb, it lets gas flow in crankcase when bike is off. Kawi Sevice Mgr. said its a defect in carb. And gas must be turned off, when bike not in use. This has caused a $1600 repair in one of my sons bikes (650). Good luck.

Mine does the exact same thing, I am afraid to have a major problem going on, beacause it is truly not normal for a quad, now days, to pump oil, technology is to efficient fr that, I wonder how it would ump oil, no signs of dripping, never noticed any major smoke coming out, only noticed an oily smell when starting the qud lasts for 1 minute or so, til the quads engine is heated to normal temp, then no more smell! I don't understand this problem, and I don't want my daler to open the engine, cause their mechanic's is not that great and I am afraid to be stuck with more problem then solutions. I would do the job but am not a Kawie certified mech. so warranty won't cover the work.

I heard a guy talking about gaz going to the crank, how would this cause oil the be pumped? It would normally make the level go up since there is a new volum of fluid being added to the original oil level, Well I guess if gaz can get down ther, oil may be abble to got up, but viscosity is not the same at all. I use Golden spectro Spetro 4 synthetic blend oil (10-40), could this syntetic blend be the source of our troubles?? If really there is gaz goning in my crank-case I am afraid to damage my engine severely, since my oil will be less lubricating the components, it could even wash thne, if there is a lot of gaz in it. Damn this purchase, I thought I was getting lots of fun with tis bike, but I have had my shares of problem with it (chike cables and springs, bad shift lever adjustments, other, non original parts problems, now this) It's a good thing that I am a mechanic, I could doo all these jobs my self.

Please somebody reply some feed-back to this post, I am worried for my babys heart to have some permanet damage (quad's engine)

the crankcase hose is snorkled to the airbox, so how does gas enter the crankcase? the gas has to run in a downward direction, so does it leak into the cylinder and down past the rings? if it does i have had absolutely no problems, and i can assure you i have been the hardest on my 650.

Actually that is what is supposed to be happening, some of these Kawi 650 fuel line has a problem, I am not sure where, but the psitive pressure in the cicuit due to the fuel pump, can built up when the bike is stoped, i don't know if it would be gaz in the line that would expend due to temperature or just residuale pressure taht will not go out by a check valvle that is not working, I did not chek the circuit yet, but if the gaz key is not turned to the off position when teh bike is stopped there is some gaz that manages to make it's way thru the carbs and into the cylinder heads. Kawasaki says that they have no better solutions yet tehn turning off the gaz valve when the bike is stopped for more then 6 hours. Thing is that I do close this valve, but my bike is pumping oil anyway, If my memory is good during break true it did not pump any oil, but now that I have changed my oil, it does. 2 things have changed since then, First I now use Syntetic blend oil, and temperature is hotter now, break true was during winter. My bike has never been beat up, went mud kicking only twice, not even in deep mud, just enough to get dirty . So I would like the guys whos bike do pump some oil to telle me is they use syntetic oil, or if they have been in a temperatur change since they break-true there bikes.

Thanks
