P650 Clutch
Well i guess if no one makes them for the p650 i will have to make some. Otherwise i will just wait for the CDI to get done from bearman. That there should cure the problem with the clutch as the extra added RPM will cause the clutch to engage fully. Maybe for now i will just make my own advanced timing key for it. I measured and figure i can get about 5 degrees advance which may help some. It should also if yah think about it make it start better cold. The retarded timing it has now is why the beast is so cold blooded. Thanks for the advice shotgun

Talk to Mike Penland, I think they sell off set keys for just a few dollars. This will help, but not much.
Let me know when you make some weights, I'm your first sale!
by the way, that's a great idea, but you need to have lighter weights not heavier with bigger tires. rotating mass. Make your weights with more curve, so they will ramp out faster, more pickup!
Have fun!

I actually need heavier weights. I want to make more top speed. Lighter weights would make less top speed but better hit at higher rpm. With the stock set up the weghts dont have enough pull to engage the clutch fully. With the new cdi it would give the extra RPM to get the clutch to engage fully. I guess i am just going to have to wait for the CDI. Well with the exception of making my own advance key. I'll put that in since its a peice of cake.

If you want heaver weights, just take your stock weights out, you'll see a hold drilled through, go to your local hardware store and get ten cents worth of metal screws (4) that will screw into the holes. You'll add about 2 grams of weight to each one. Be shore to put the screws in so the head doen't stick out beyond the side of the weight, one side has more room.
Your reasoning is right on snowmobiles, but seems to work the opposite on ATV's.
You'll have a lot faster pick on the start, but you'll lose about 5 miles on hour top end. Again rotating mass! been there, done that.
Let me know your finding.

I can understand where you are coming from but i am not running bigger tires than stock. I think it will work. One reason being RPM range on shifting will be lower so it should feel more powerful also. Because of the way the prairies cut out at like 6000rpm. So with the heavier weights it will be going the same speed at a lower RPM. wihch means i should pick up some speed. If the scews isnt enough weight i will take it back apart and use my lead smelter and fill the holes with lead. Theani can use a drill to remove some lead to make sure all 4 weights are exactly the same. I will let yah guys know how it works.

Be extra sure and let me know if the lead in the weights work. I have a set of weights for my Kodiak that I already drilled out to make lighter. It didnt help at all, if anything it was worse. High Lifter was selling a clutch weight kit and it was lighter than stock. A friend of mine sent me his stock weights to play with. So, I will fill the holes up with lead if it will hold. I have no use for the lighter ones now. Also, I talked with Chad at EPI and he said the clutch kit they sell for the Kodiak has heavier weights.

It may be a while before i get any tinkering done on the prairie. The fiance hit a deer with her car so for the next week or so im gonna be a body man. It realy sucks though cause i just got done putting everything brand new on the car or i would just get a different one. Damn deer! ohwell.
