650 belt

Probably not. Kawi puts them on loose so you will have to get a new one sooner.
Take the shims out, put a black spring on, and you will get a lot more miles out of this belt (tighter is better, but make sure that you aren't too tight).

according to the service manual i would need a lot of shims to take out to get it where it needs to be. i've not seen how many shims i have but what if all the shims are out and it's still to much. does the black spring change belt deflection? thanks

black spring does not change deflection. It reduces belt wear and slippage.
Removing .1mm(.004) of shim tightens the belt 1.3mm (.051")
If you have a .6mm (or .8mm) shim remove it (put black spring in at same time) and check the deflection. 6 times .051 =~ .3.
So, 1.25-0.3 is 0.95". That is just the manual's rule of thumb stuff.
It almost appears that kawi left us in the cold without much more adjustment left in our pulleys. But, we can use the 360 belt which is wider in case the adjustment can't be made with a 650 belt. Hopefully gates will make us belts that are just a sliver wider than the kawi 650 belt.
