Default The First Mod everyone should do to P650 - important.

I posted this in a reply earlier but then I thought it would be helpful to everyone.

If you only do one mod to the P650 do this:

Cut the bottom of the front mud flap and make it flush with the footrests. A box cutter works fine. A guy here in town was riding the weekend and got hung up in a bind crossing a log, and darn near pulled off the black fender mudflap from his front colored plastic.

I don't know why Kawa. made it this way but its an accident waiting to happen. cut it off now or you might accidently rip it off later.

I did the same thing to mine right away. I noticed a rip starting so i cut it off before it made it up above the floor board. I was then not happy with the splash protection so i took a set of mud flaps i had for my truck and cut them to size and bolted them to my floorboards. Now i have better splash protection than stock and i dont have to worry about ripping nothing.

Yah, it really sucks when you ride in wet conditions, water and mud hit the middle of the rear fender and will splash right up the pantleg of a passenger. If you cut 'em, you will need to make some sort of spashguard.

I agree completely! Cut it off before it rips...and it will rip.

It looks like you added another mud flap after you cut the original one off. Thats not a bad idea actually. I may do that too.

Yah i did that so i could still have the splash protection. I was not to happy with it with the stock cut off. I used a peice of 1/32in steel and folded it in half around the mudflap. Then drilled holes threw it to bolt it to the floor boards and one extra hole for the end where it was folded to keep the flap between the metal pieces. The metal was used as support for the out edge because the floor board dosnt go out as far as the black plastic and i wanted the fla even with the outside. It works great!
