First piece of advice, read your owner's manual.
It clearly states what grades/weights oil you can use in your engine.
You can use any type of motor oil you want, as long as it meets the standards requirements listed in your owner's manual.
I personally use Havoline 4-Stroke ATV Oil 10w40. It meets and surpasses every requirement that Kawasaki states in the owner's manual. Don't listen to the dealer, read the manual and follow what it says. I believe Kawasaki knew what they were writing, when they wrote the manual, so follow it.
You can use Castrol, Valvoline, Havoline, Royal Purple, Amsoil, Mobil 1, etc.. Just make sure it meets the requirements.
For example, on my 650.

Engine Oil
Grade: API SF or SG, API SH or SJ with Jaso MA
Viscosity: SAE 5w30, 10w40, 10w50, 20w40, or 20w50
This clearly states the requirements the oil you use needs to meet.
For example, pick up a $1.25 quart of Castrol 10w40. If the Grade on it is API SF, you can use it. If it's one of the others on the list, then it's also ok to use it. Just something you might want to consider.
Yamalube and KawaChem products are the same ol motor oil, just repackaged in their containers so they can make more money off of you.

I bought Penzoil 10W40 for mine today, although I got the Kawachem brand stuff for the "rear end". One of my buddies who drag races sleds(he's a clutch expert) said he'd stop by my shop with a set of Dial-a-Jets for me, and have a look at clutching it, should be interesting anyway, even if I don't change it(yeah right, like I'm turning down free advice)

Hey Nemmeh, a little insulted with the advice bit . I have read the manual. I was just curious what was popular. I have been out of the atv business for 4-5 years. I have always heard about the "just in a different bottle deal". I have often wondered about that myself
