I am a newbie to ATV's. What is the CVT belt, where is it, and how do I know if it's working properly?
Oh, and if you are lookin to get a 4x4 Look at the Jianshe quads. NICE stuff. Yamaha/Jianshe same manufacturer....

The quad that you showed is exactly the same as the Baja one (on the Baja page the picture in the bottom left corner is of an ATV looking like that, it's how the 400 looked before the re-styled headlights). The engine is made by Yamaha on the 400 Baja.
The Kazuma 500 seems decent, there have been some decent review on the internet, and some videos of it on youtube and such, but same thing with the Baja 400, lots of good reviews.

Here is a break down of the CVT transmission. It uses a belt between two pulleys. As RPM builds up weights on the front pulley squeezes the pulley sides closer together and therefore forces the belt out towards the outer edge of the pulley. The pulley on the other end opens as the belt is pulled forward by the larger radius it now has to ride in on the front pulley. This in effect changes your drive ratio to the rear wheels. There is a combination of engine speed and force to the rear wheels that equals everything out. As rolling resistance increases the engine will tend to slow down. The weights on the front pulley will allow the belt to ride closer to the shaft which allows the RPM to increase which increases the torque to the rear wheels. As rolling resistance decreases the weights squeeze the belt out to the edge allowing more RPM to the rear wheels. Hope all this makes sense. Now a number of things can cause problems with this system. Stretched belts, oil on the pulleys, pulley halves not freely moving on there shafts, sticky weight mechanisms, improper weights can all be a problem to the system. Hope this helps some. I have not worked on a ATV CVT before, but had a old Amphicat 6X6 AATV that used this system. Many snowmobiles use this system as well.

If you are new to ATV's Chinese quads are great. Won't last ya too terribly long, and yes thet quality isn't the greatest. But you will still have fun while learning a bit about ATV's.
Then when you have it all used up, you will probably upgrade to a Jap quad.
Have as much fun with it as you can, you will enjoy it.
I have no regrets yet from buying chinese.</end quote></div>
Here are some kid china quads in action.

I wonder if this is why they don't last long?

I think my son's atv-p15 from powersportsmax is faster that any of the ones shown in those vids except MAYBE the gio(the last vid). My bro-in law and I are thinking about buy ourselves a couple min 110's for ourselves...(so we don't trash the kids bikes) The little ones are just so fun, lol.
I gotta quit bein lazy, and just shoot a damn vid. I'm probably gonna have the kids riding a little bit this weekend, so MAYBE i'll shoot some vid then.

George thanks for starting this thread. IO just bought the 200 Marshin and have yet to ride it. I had a friend put it together out of the crate and It is a cold blooded animal. I am going to NC this next week and hope to iron some things out with it. I will let you all know how it went. Thanks
