Chet,

Do you put it in just your name or as the "custodian" with your child's name as well?

I am a custodian on my daughter's AmSouth. My experience has been that the companies won't allow a minor to be on there without a custodian. After 18, I had to jump through a million hoops to get all my stocks in my name alone.
I would have it in the parents name only but that is just me. Lets say the parent dies and hopefully they have a will. It now goes to the child and his or her cost basis is now the day that the parent dies otherwise if you have it in joint tenants there cost basis is when they stock was purchased would could have more capital gains when it is ultimately sold.

Here is another point that if you are not really active in it day to day it is best to have all the different stocks that you might own in a brokerage account.

That way all it takes is one time(death certificate)( turning 18) to get everything switched over instead of having to do each individual stock which can be a pain in the butt.

Raptoryfn660r- Last I knew, the initial investment is at least $250. for P&G. They've had their ups and downs. I kinda like it when it splits because then you have twice as much and then that grows.
