Default '05 Scrammy hates water...few ?'s

My friend's '05 Scrammy sputters and back fires evertime he goes through water. It doesn't matter how deep, the thing just sputters and doesn't want to go. It sounds like the choke is stuck on but it isn't.

My thoughts are...jetting too rich? spark plug boot not sealed?

I'm going to take a look at it this afternoon for him. Can't bring it to the dealer b/c we want to ride this weekend.

Any thoughts?

I'd say any reasonable dealer should be able to look at it in like... 10 mins... likely the boot is not seated properly, my 325 Trail Boss used to do that back in the day at Paydons in Sharon, PA, but reseeling the boot seemed to fix it. Was wonderring: does the spark plug foul out or after a bit does it start running better? if the jetting was too rich, it would foul out, and then you'd need a new plug (or at least a good cleaning) best of luck

It's okay after idling for about 5 minutes but then as soon as it comes near water it wants to cut out again.

Thanks.

Actually, a syptom of rich jetting is just what my friend is experiencing. The engine wants to die in hot weather when in wet/steamy conditons. That's why I thought maybe his quad was jetted incorrectly from the factory.

Okay, the problem is the white connector by the steering column. If standing in front of the quad with the hood off, it is to the left of the column down about 3 inches. I believe it has 2 rowes of 5 wires. What is happening is when going through the water it fills the connector, bridges 2 of the wires shorting them together. The quad is not stalling, the rev limiter is kicking in. I have tried dielectric silicon, but this doesn't work. The connecter is in the vertical position allowing the water to stay there. I have a 2004 with the same problem and was i ever mad when it happened. Took me about 6-7 times before i found the problem. My fix was to fill the top connector with silicon sealent to stop the water from bridging.

MrToys,

You know what? I think that is it. I didn't get a chance to look at it yet however, it does sounds like the rev limiter is kicking in! As a matter of fact I can smell unburned fuel when he is having this problem, just like when going in reverse without the rev limiter over ride button pushed in.

Thanks bro!

BTW, my brother lives in Chardon. Any good places to ride over there?

If it is not the wire than i no what else it is. IT is very common and i here about the same problom all the time. When ever you go into water nomatter how deep it is, when the water hits the engin, it creates steem which is then sucked into the engin my the intake which causes the engin to sputter. The steem makes it hard for the engin to brethe. JUst like if you have ever had verry hot tee or cofee, if you have ever brethed in the steem comming off the coffee, it is hard to brethe kinda, well that is whats happene on your ride.
