Default 1996 polaris 400 automatic starter

What do you have to do to remove the starter?

Default 1996 polaris 400 automatic starter

Unhook battry,drop the skid plate,remove clutches and inside clutch cover,unhook wire from starter,take out bolts.........replace starter.

And the stator cover also. There are two bolts under there that hold the starter on.

Default 1996 polaris 400 automatic starter

Still having problems.Do you know of any websites that shows a diagram of the starter and how to remove it.Can't find the right bolts to take out.Thanks

Default 1996 polaris 400 automatic starter

just a thought - are you 100% sure old one is cactus

check 12 V getting TO it plus the resistance OF it [ie open circuit or dead shot]

or is it a mechanical problem with gear etc?

on my 1994 starter seems rather sturdy but actual key switch plays up sometimes and wont allow 12 V to starter
