Darn..Can't believe you broke headlight pod just by flipping over and landing on it..Just did the same thing (almost) with a 2006 Mustang GT ..Hard to believe but almost 15000.00 dollars damage and all I did was roll the the darn thing over..Sure don't make them like they used to..

anyways as far as the quad starting with pull but not switch it's probably either that the battery has just enough juice to power the ecu without any other load, especially a large load like a starter
or, if you actually turn the key to start it, it could have a bad contact that's causing the ecu to lose power in the start position, but makes the connection in the regular on position. If you have a seperate start button, then it's probably the first one.
If it does start by turning the key, then just find the start selinoid and jump it. If it starts by leaving the key on and jumping the selinoid, then it probably is the key switch. If it doesn't, then it's probably a weak battery.

Sorry about the links!!!

I took the key switch apart and it's missing a contact which is why it doesn't start. At least I hope! We found the contact and a tiny spring within the crime scene and I was too pe'od to hold on to it.

lol, a long time buddy of 25 years would have paid for the damage or bought a new quad!! Sounds like you've found the problem, but if you still want to jump the selinoid you'll have to look for an online diagram because I don't know exactly where it is on your machine. But like la said, you should be able to find it by tracing the positive battery cable.
