Default Why such negative camber on Sportsman front end

Does anyone know why Polaris runs such negative camber (top of front wheels lean inward)? The manual says it's not adjustable but I have the new style front storage compartment so I can't get to the upper strut mounts without removing the whole box. I'd like to adjust them to a more neutral camber to help with hard steering. My experience riding other ATVs is that Poos are noticiably harder to turn and I think the negative camber is causing it. Anyone modify their machine or know of a kit to make the camber and caster adjustable?

i know type of tires make a big differnce in the steering. our 450 turns pretty good and w/ the pxt 26" off my 800 its pretty easy. now w/ my xtr's(27") my 800 now turns a little harder. just a thought.

I was thinking abou this thread today and thought that I would get back to you. You didn't say what year it was, so I wonde if it is an older one(pre-05), your problem may be the ever so popular sagging front springs. When this styl suspension moves the camber is affected. If the springs are sagging like the older quads do, this could be your cause. Try jacking up the quad to where you think it should ride and recheck it. Hope this helps, If not, at least I refreshed (bump) your topic and maybe some else can help!

I don't know which mahcine you ride, but my experience is, after owning two Yamahas in the past, the Polaris steers much easier. I have noticed the camber you mention, and have wondered if this is the difference. The others I've owned had the opposite camber and were a bear to steer! I can steer my 06 450 Sp. with one hand if not in really rough terrain.

The negative camber is caused by the soft springs. The last time I was by the dealer he had a few Sportsman lined up out front and every one of them was like that. A spacer under the springs or heavy duty springs will cure the problem and it won't affect the steering at all. I went with the spacer and now the front end sits up and the wheels sit straight......

Thanks for the replies. My Sportsman is an 06 and I don't think it's sagging. All others I have seen have the negative camber too. Haven't ridden a Yamaha but did ride a Can Am and Suzy, both of which seemed to steer much easier. I was thinking to add the plow rubber spring spacers because I wanted to raise the nose a little for more clearance.

Most all atv's run either a positive or negative camber. Your front grip is alot better when they are like that. It keeps the tires digging in the dirt. They are also towed out 1/16 to 1/8 inch on each wheel.

I like the Executioners just fine. Great all around tire and with 4000kms still 90% lug left....
