sportsman 800HP ??????
If they made the hawkeye platform with two motor options, they would help. Keep the 300cc and make a 400cc for the halkeye and drop the sportsman 450. From what I understand, there is a big performance difference between the sp450 and the sp500efi, but the cost difference is not that much. Then they would have a 300cc, 400cc basic mid size 4x4 utility along with the 500efi, 700efi & 800efi sportsmans.

i do beleave that they can just a have a bigger bore/stroke for the more cc's on the 800 engine w/out havinga diffent engine. as far as the 450 being in the line up, it has the same power as the 500 carb in most repects and allows you to kep the carb opition. i think the 400 was a little under powered for the same frame as the 500 and up so they went w/ the 455 cc engine and the 500 efi has close to the 600's power so they did away w/ it. maybe (dont really know) the hawkeye frame isnt strong enough to hold a heavyier and more hp power plant. as far as the yam. 450 goes there a good bike i ride w/ 2 of them a 400 kodiak. but they dont hold a candle to my wifes sp 450 in any repect except fuel milage. not sure about the the new yam 450 but older ones and the new 400's there is no override on the reverse's which sucks when you try to back up when your stuck and it cuts out.

The 450 Kodiak has many more features than the 400, mine is an 06 and it doesn't lack anything in features other than storage IMO. They went to IRS in 05 otherwise I wouldn't have bought one. Biggest gripe about it is the positive camber issue in the front, I don't like that set up. Should be slightly on the negative side instead and they don't have much for tires but I switched them out already....
