shimed my driven clutch 1/4"
#1
I have a 2000 sportsman 500 and it was doing the sportsman creep. I had the 2 washers (copper and fiber) replaced in the drive clutch and it was still doing the same thing. So then i had to shim my driven clutch, I had to add 3 hardware store washers equal to aprox 1/4" in thickness. i feel that this is too much and something else is wrong. the engine does not move like a engine mount is broken or anything like that. Do you guys have any ideas? right now it is working good but i dont know why all of a sudden it will need these shims.

Take the washers out of your secondary and get the bushings replaced in the primary clutch.
I bet you have a clutch bushing hanging up.

have you replaced your belt? on my 02 i had ther same problem but the belt shrunk making it tighter. i but a top cog 700 belt on it to help cooling it and never had a problem again.

It has a new belt on it and the all the bushings in the clutch are in good shape as per the dealer who replaced the fiber and copper washers. i have read alot of people have replaced the whole drive clutch with a new one for around $400, i hope thats not what i need to do.

I?m sorry for being a smart *** ???????..But ???go replace the primary.
Take a machinist rule and lie it across the face of the sheaves, you will see that the lower part were the belt rides when idling will have a few thousandths worn away.
All the shims you add will not replace the metal that has worn away. Those years had a problem and the only LONG TERM FIX is to replace the clutch.
Also be sure to check your motor mounts and clutch alignment first
If you keep jamming it in gear and braking to stop you will be in for a whole lot more then four hundred for a new clutch!
