one is an 800 and one is a 500 there is a difference of 300cc. yeah you are going to feel a difference and yes it is going to look bigger than the 500.

yeah you'll feel a difference, but i personally would stay with the 500, more practical.... better MPG... also, my boss has a 800 and when we pull the same heavy things...... his does no better than my 500 or 400... its now how much HP you have.... its how much traction you can get.....
I have never spun my belt or bogged the engine down when in mud or towing... i always have enough power, just not always enough traction...
and for speed, my 400 2 stroke will do 65mph and my 500 will do 62mph...
just my thoughts... but as we know, people want the biggest, just so they can say they have the biggest...

i agree in low range they'll both pull until they lose traction but in take off performance its not even close to the same. also remeber that the 500 is pretty close in weight(around 60 lbs) so w/ the extra hp the 800 will carry the weight better and faster. im not sure about the 500 now but i notice on stock take off the 450 revs to around 1850 +- where the 800 is 1300 +- so theres a good differnce in how much rev it takes to get them off the line. just a couple of thoughts.

Just drive them both and see what one you like better. You should save some money on the 500 but after have a Scrammy 500, the 500 Sportsman X2 didnt impress me power wise. Must have been the weight.

Theres a big difference i find between my 01 500 sportsman and my 800 twin EFI it is in bottom end torque, hit the throttle and hold on! Although the 500 I found to be a much better machine in the mud, alot lighterand more agile.
TO bad they don't make the 800 twin in semi auto,I believe it would help out on the fuel economy it always seems to be revving to high.
