Default 06 500 Sportsman running rough

Was out riding the other day and after about an 1 hour of riding it started to act up. It sounds like its missing and always bogs it self down. I went and got a new fuel filter for it and changed it out and it still does the same thing. At about 3200rpm's it starts to really miss and sputter. (haven't gone throught any water at all with it) checked the oil level and thats good, checked air filter and thats also good, lots of fuel gettin' to the engine. it will idle for a little bit then drop in RPM's to about 900 and quit. Sometimes after starting it it will stay idling at about 2500 rpm's and then slowly slow down to the 1200 range. Fuel pump priming does not sound as loud as it should be when the key is turned on. Taking it to dealer tomorrow to see if they can find anything. Any additional help would be greatly appreciated instead of paying shop time and everything else. Thanks in advance

What kind of machine - Polaris - hmmm, Would not have this problem with AC.. lol..
On your way back from the Polaris dealer stop and see about a trade in for an AC - hehehe...

I'd say it probably has dirt in the carb.
Choke may not be opperating properly causing a rich condition
Obstructed air filter will cause a rich condition
A rich condition will flood - engine will die or bog or sputter, smooth running will be impared with loss of power.

Problem: Engine stalls easily
Condition Remedy
1. Spark plug fouled 1. Clean plug
2. Magneto defective 2. Replace magneto
3. CDI unit defective 3. Replace CDI unit
4. Carburetor jets obstructed 4. Clean jets
5. Valve clearance out of adjustment 5. Adjust clearance

Problem: Starting impaired
Condition Remedy
1. Starter jet obstructed 1. Clean jet
2. Starter jet passage obstructed 2. Clean passage
3. Starter body - carburetor leaking air 3. Tighten - adjust - replace gasket
4. Starter valve not operating properly 4. Check - adjust valve

Problem: Idling or low speed impaired
Condition Remedy
1. Slow jet obstructed - loose 1. Clean - tighten jet
2. Slow jet outlet obstructed 2. Clean outlet
3. Low speed fuel screw setting incorrect 3. Adjust screw
4. Starter valve not fully closed 4. Adjust valve
5. Float height incorrect 5. Adjust float height

Problem: Medium or high speed impaired
Condition Remedy
1. High RPM "cut out" against RPM limiter 1. Shift into higher gear - decrease RPM speed
2. Main jet obstructed 2. Clean main jet
3. Needle jet obstructed 3. Clean needle jet
4. Throttle vacuum piston not operating properly 4. Check piston operation
5. Filter obstructed 5. Clean filter
6. Float height incorrect 6. Adjust float height
7. Starter valve not fully closed 7. Adjust valves

Most of your reply doesn't apply since his ATV is fuel injected.

Mornin Polaris500Sportsman
Mine was runnin rough also, I adjusted the valves and it runs better now, I didn't pull the gas tank like the book says to, I got a socket and a 3/8 to 1/4 adapter and used a wrench to get to the two bolts on the left side of the cover, ( will send a picture of the set up if you want) My top 2 valves were too tight, Runs better now,,

Wasn't running it down, just making a little joke so get off it. Plus even tho' it may be FI, which I didn't realize, chances are he still could put some carb/fuelinjector cleaner in it and it probably would help. The principles are still the same whether it be FI or carb. It appears that he is running rich. Obstructed air or fuel or fouled plug.
I didn't see you offer any help, except shoot your mouth off. If you think my info is bad where is yours. And since you are so smart tell me what his problem is. And tell me he doesn't have a sparkplug, CDI or any valves. And it is people like you that don't offer anything, but just want to jump in and criticize and stir up a 'hornets nest'.
Hobbles is the only other one that offered any assistance.
At least I took the time to stop and try and help. Whether I am accurate or not, is besides the point at least I offered to help, which is more than I can say for some of his fellow Polaris owners. So KMA.

i would changed the plug, and then try it.... and if not go, (if still under warranty take it in) if not check the valves

Afternoon Polaris500Sportsman
Sorry it took me so long, been busy, Here is a picture of what I use to pull the valve cover off with so I don't have to pull the gas tank off,
