scrambler 400 wont start and back fires
#12
It's one of the symptoms that I've encountered on low compression engines. Some times fuel loads up and ignites in the exhaust system. I've had a lot of head pipes blown off the springs. Sometimes they'll back fire through the carb.Plus is the crank seals are leaking you'll have more fuel than air try to shoot up the transfer ports. It can foul plugs or pop back if this excess gas happens to ignite. You have to have good top end compression along wth good bottom end compression(seals) to be able to atomize the fuel mixture properly to ignite. Another test is using starting fluid. A lot of machines may start on it and die when it runs out as it's lighter than the normal gas/air mixture.
