Just wanted a little advice... I'm in the market for another new quad. I am interested in the SP 700, SP 500, and EXPLORER 400. hat would be your choice for trail riding, hill climbin, and light yard work. Thanks.

My choice would be the Xplorer, a lot less maintanece and initial expense. The 500 don't match the 400L on low end performance. Only thing is, Polaris don't make it anymore.

coach2u, since polaris doesn't make the explorer 400 anymore,
if you're wanting to purchase new, go with the 600 or 700..awesome
machines...

Two-Stroke all the way.
Not as many CC's but you've got that snap that the four strokes just don't have.

I've seen some new one's still left over from 02.

I would say either the SP500 or the SP700. They are fairly similar in peformance but the SP500 gets better MPG.

I used to have a explorer 400 and it was a great machine, BUT every time i would use it for yard work, plowing etc. I would come in reaking of oil smoke. I have a 600 now and it's a great machine, my only complaint is I have rev it higher than I would like to engage in reverse.

blackraptor,

He says he wants to buy new.. the only problem with your logic is
when you buy a letfover 02, you immediately have a 2year old
machine when you drive it off the dealers lot(the polaris 04 models
are out now)...which leaves the 500,600, or 700...
no more 2 strokes available with a hi/lo range

The SP500 are bulletproof excellent in all conditions since design has been same but improvements made over 6 years. I love my SP700 also but does not have the years of realibility the 500 has. No problems on either machine for me and LOVE the awesome power you can get out of SP700.
