Automotive Instruments, speedo, tach.... ) on a 400?

Yes, an automotive tach will work on a 400 Scrambler. The important thing to remember is the number of pulses per revolution. 400 Scrambler engines have 2 pulses per rev, just like a 4 cylinder, 4 cycle engine. Just one of those lucky coincedences.

Hey Walexa, what's the part number on that speedo? Info to others, from comparison when using a tach, the digital units are inherently slower to respond than the analogue units. I know there are a lot of variations out there, but the (here comes the commercial) HPD (VDO) tach I have has been through two summers of woods wars ,and still works flawless. Back to the speedo issue, having picked up the Panoram unit from Walmart, I'm kinda interested in the mounting of the pickup....hopefully something better than epoxy, not to knock that, but otherwise I'll fab a mechanical unit. Can't beat the Panoram unit for $30. Same one in Rocky MTN ATV for $70-75. Don't care, and can't sway the attention to monitor speed....the pucker factor judges that. Just want to monitor miles covered. No, I'm not trying to go economical MPG here, just like to judge out and back fuel. Gotta go check out Todd's pics, sorry for the ramblin's
