on my 400 2 stroke i have been having a problem starting my bike after it sets up for a day are two. i can full choke it and pump the throttle a couple of times and it might start. if it will not start, i have to unscrew the choke where it goes into the carb and raise it up and then it will fire right up. once it starts it does not have a problem starting for the rest of the day. but you let it set up for over a day then you have to go to the same procedure again. i am running amsoil 80:1 with premium gas and a iridum tip plug. carb settings is 30 piolt jet, air screw 1 1/2 turns out, needle in 2 notch from top, 200 main. i live in Lousiana. I also put in a new needle and seat back in july

Sometimes my 400 sport would get vapor locked just sitting for some reason. It started doing it right before I sold it, but it never did it before that.
As soon as I would open the gas cap it would fire right up...if I didn't I could try all day and not work.
Might not be your problem, but just something to check.

maximus,
I have this happen all the time on my Sport. The cure is to shut the gas off and run the float bowl almost dry before you put it away. You can tell when it is almost dry when the idle starts to pick up. Then just remember to turn the gas on before you start it again and you'll be fine.

Piranha,
My kids. I originally bought them a used (and much abused) Trailblazer. Well, even after getting the motor rebuilt, I knew it would be nothing but trouble as most kids don't take care of things. So I went out and bought the most maintenance/trouble free machine out there. I suppose I could have gotten them a Recon, but I did want to get them something sporty, so the 250EX it was. They haven't had a problem with it besides twisting the handlebars in the clamps after they rolled it (twice). Nice reliable little machine. I can't say much for the handling, power or suspension, but these things don't matter much to kids. Just as long as it goes.....
