sorry i still am very fond of my two stroke dt and this stuff is all new.

piston-to-valve clearance (the wiseco high comp & hot cams combination)

How do I know its safe to put back together?

how do i set the cam timing properly?</end quote></div>

I was told before final assembly put some modeling clay on top of piston, put whatever the dang piece is called with valves, head? on with hand tight nuts, slowly rotate thru TDC with kicker twice, pull head? and make sure valves did not poke thru clay and touch piston. as long as they don't go thru the clay you are good?? I hope so........................

Stick a screwdriver in the spark plug hole to find TDC. Been working like a charm for me for yrs.

PG, when you deck a piston it means if you had the piston at TDC with the head off, you could put a straight edge on the top of the cylinder and have no gap to put a feeler gauge in above the piston. The top of the piston comes to the top of the cylinder flush. If your piston was taller than the cylinder, they might have shaved some off, but that would reduce compression so I would want a good reason why they shaved my piston! Plus, they are changing the weight of the piston and might throw off the balance of the crank and wear out your bearings! Usually you have to cut some off the cylinder because the piston almost never comes all the way up. Your piston looking different is suspicious.

those wiesco pistons are cut to be able to have timing chain break and not bend valves! I did the clay thing and valves barely marked the clay! To set timing u could make sure piston is at tdc before u put head on but id pull the magneto cover. theres a ^ on the cases that line up with a mark on flywheel. top cam gear is lined up with the 2 lines flat on rocker cover surface

I contacted wiseco. The valve pockets on the 10.25:1 kit are the same as the stock piston. So no matter what I guess its all set!

I just bought some maier replacement plastics off ebay for 250$ for the set. I will post pics when I get the new plastics. Now I'm not sure if I want to do an exhaust. My principal was I have my DT250 to be loud and go fast. I wanted this to be the quiet trail ride. Is it worth getting an exhaust anyways? Its the only thing left I can do to it.

Are you sure? If that is the case, then we can deck the piston and mill the head down to nothing. Have like 12:1.

Guys, I just got my factory service manual for the 230 and the 250 in the mail. They're packed with all kinds of info. But whats really cool are the 2 other books I got that have every atv made from 1974 to 1992. Really, really cool! Got all the bore n stroke and carb info, wire diagrams,,,, everything for everything. Totally awesome! I'm all set to work on anything, so let the questions fly, lol.
