Could you all dazzle me with an explanation of how a choke works? As in what are the mechanics of it. All I know is when bike is cold, pull it, it starts after a little bit idle starts to climb, push it back in and haul azz!!! What exactly does a choke do?

The choke chokes off the engine's air supply, but the engine is still creating vacuum, so that vacuum just sucks all the more on the jets and gets more gas instead of air. The 230 actauly has a "fuel enrichment" port instead of a choke (I still call it a choke though - easier). The fuel enrichment doesn't choke the air off, but opens another big hole for gas to pour out of.

if u use the choke does it start easier? my elevation is round 1000 ft.</end quote></div>
H3ll No! If I use the choke, I'll spend the next 15 minutes trying to get all that gas out and lose about 5 lbs off my azz by kicking. The only time I use the choke is when its 30 degrees out and I haven't riden it all day.
Btw, I was out n about today n stopped by the shop that had ordered my pilot jets. They had em sittin back there, just never called me. Anyway, $10 for a #10 and a #12.5. At least if they don't work I'll have a very hard to find part to add to my collection, lol. I haven't heard from bikebandit in a while. I wonder if they have to order my lighting coil from Japan before sending it out to me. Bikebandit is always slow and mysterious like that.

69... Interesting...
No, that's not that old. My grandpa is still out running around like a 50yr old and he's 83.
But d@mn, the loss is big to the world.

Knievel -- who retired in 1981 after breaking more than 40 bones in his body, including his back seven times (Hmmm... Kinda reminds me of someone around here,,,, poolgod.) -- had been ill for some time, suffering from a lung disease.
"Anybody can jump a motorcycle," he once told Esquire magazine. "The trouble begins when you try to land it."

Finally started reading my factory service manual and saw it has the "primary gear reduction" of 3.095 (65/21). That's the last piece of the puzzle for me to calculate top speed. So, the top speed with 23 inch tires, 13/39 gears at 9000 rpm is 66.3. With 20 inch tires its 57.7.
Since everybody runs 20's with the 13/39, this is how fast you'll go in each gear.
1st 18.7
2nd 27
3rd 36
4th 46.9
5th 57.7
The 250 model doesn't go as fast in 4th. Every other gear is the same though. For those of you that have noticed there is a big jump between 3rd and 4th, Suzuki noticed too and changed it in the 250 version in 1989.
If you have 22 inch tires, you can use a 12/39 combo to go about the same speed as a 13/39 with 20's (you'll be just a hair faster).

The service manual says every time you change your oil you should retorque the head bolts, exhaust bolts, cylinder nuts, and check valve clearance. I was wondering if I should retorque my head bolts. Nobody ever said anything and I never read that I should, so I haven't so far. But I know on cars you are supposed to (unless the bolts are torque-to-yield bolts).
