Aha, a trick question. The white one is the 250S. I remember the pics. I also remember the differences. Been looking for a 4th gear to slide in the 230. Haven't seen a 250S engine at all. Tough find?

Well I got it back from the dealership today, basically they said that they couldn't help me unless I was willin to pony up for new axle bearings and seals, apparently the chain adjuster part of the rear axle is so seized up that they won't be able to free it w/o destroying the bearings an seals.
unfortunatly I don't have the dough to get it done at this very moment, at least I am starting to build a parts list for sumtin to do in the garage as it gets colder.

Only made em 2 yrs. And those 2 yrs the Prime Bank interest rate was more than 10%! Plus the consumer protection agency was going nuts as well as the EPA. There was little market for sport quads in those days. So, not many were sold. 1991 was a recession year too.

They're tough to find, but they're around. Keep looking. I found a 250S engine on ebay last summer for $250. It runs perfectly. My buddy bought his for $350 I think. It smoked, but he got a year's worth of riding before he finally rebuilt it. If it weren't for him buying it, I would have never known about them. At first, we thought it was a 230. I didn't know it wasn't until he rolled in the driveway with it on the truck.

On ebay you have to search for "250S", "250 quadsport", and any other variation you can think of and maybe something like "1990 quadsport", "1989 quadsport", etc. I still think one day these thing will be collector's items. Its not like the zilla that everybody saves.... They scrap the quadsports and part them out thinking nobody wants them. One day there will only be a handful left. Especially if metal prices ever go back up.

Almost defeats the purpose of having more fins if you're going to cut them off.

I'd just do it right and get the long rod from Vince if nothing else. A long rod is better and its something suzuki decided to do anyway in 1989.

I wonder if a 250 crank would fit in the 230? The 250 rod is much stronger since it has a 17mm wrist pin. Arias has pistons for it and can always custom make them when the stock runs out. I say 250 crank because I'm sure the balancing is different than the 230 crank.

Axle bearings are only like $20-$30 aren't they? I think rockymountain has them pretty cheap. I don't see how it could the frozen up that bad. I know mine hangs down (since I don't have back brakes at all) and rattles as I ride around. That's how loose it should be.

Part #10 in this pic: http://www.alpha-sports.com/satv/1986/LT230S/37.htm Part #11 is the clip that holds it on. Maybe you can dig around and find the holes to the clip and remove it.

yeah thats the same bracket but unfortunatly mine is froze to the axle, so I'm guessing that I'll have to see about taking the axle apart and freeing it.
might even be cooler to see if I can find a rear axle for a 250 I hear they will ft perfectly.
by the way is that a custom chain guide, or can I buy that somewhere?

Well, first of all, I've never seen anyone at the stealership that knows what they're talking about. I suppose somewhere in the world there is a guy that is pretty good and is employed at the dealer, but I have no clue where he is. Maybe Cali. The dealer around here said my buddy's 1990 quadsport was a 1970 model. "Hello!?!" The last I heard from those guys (because my friend is friend with the owner of the suzuki shop) is that my 1986 230 can't be a 230 because the biggest quad made in 1986 was a 185. "Ok, dude... Whatever." But, he works at the dealer so he's GOTTA know, right?

Second of all, why would you need new bearings? Your problem has NOTHING to do with the bearings or the axle at all. If anything, you might need a new bearing carrier. But I don't see why you can't just beat on the caliper bracket with a hammer and bust it free. If you're going to have to buy new parts anyway, give it a shot. I have no doubt at all that I could fix it and not cost me a dime. If nothing else, I'd heat it up with a torch to break the "weld" between the aluminum carrier and the steel bracket. If that didn't work, and beating on it didn't work, I'd dump some acid on it to eat the rust and a bit of the steel and aluminum. I'd get it loose one way or another. Digging at that C-clip is another thing I'd like to try. If you can pry that clip out, it should be a cinch to tap the brack off the carrier. A new clip is only 5 bucks if you have to bend and break the old one. Or, you can pay the dealer for parts you don't necessarily need. You might need new bearings anyway, but not because you bracket is seized to the carrier. That's for sure.

I'm fairly sure the 250S axle will fit in the 230 carrier, but I haven't done it yet. Mines still laying in the garage. The 250 axle is about 2 inches longer.

You can also buy dual-bearing carriers. Why you would, I'm not sure. But you can. They're about $150-$200.
